A field of special interest in the last three decades in the degree of involvement of the state in the economy, is the provision of public services, which has resulted in the gestation of a new public management (New Public Management) to incorporate the sector private in providing them. Although this new public management has a liberal inspiration, and therefore can be considered a “right” public policy, experience indicates that regimes that can be classified as “left” have also applied it in their own societies, especially in the form of public private associations (PPP). Given these facts, the main research question of this article arises: Does the political ideology of those in charge of the government influence the choice to implement a PPP policy? Using a panel data econometrics model with 19 Latin American and Caribbean countries, it is shown that ideology has no influence on the use of PPPs.
