Project description:
The generation of wind energy is one of the projects that the Lempa River Hydroelectric Executive Commission (CEL) is strongly studying to be able to change the energy matrix of El Salvador. The CEL seeks to build a wind farm in the municipality of Metapán, Santa Ana, in which it will install 28 wind turbines of 1.5 megawatts each, which together will be able to generate a total of 42 megawatts of wind power, which translates into 126 , 5 gigawatt hours of energy per year. This is equivalent to the consumption of 100,000 homes, with an average demand of 100 kilowatt hours per month each. Currently, about half of the energy consumed in the country is generated from hydrocarbons, 30% from hydroelectric dams, and 23% from geothermal energy.
